The Love and War movie is now officially set for a January 21, 2027 theatrical release, with Sanjay Leela Bhansali bringing Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal together for one of his biggest ensemble dramas.
The date is no longer based on an old release-window report. Bhansali Productions announced January 21, 2027 earlier in 2026 and repeated the same date during the film’s September first-look campaign.
The makers have now revealed individual character posters for all three leads, giving audiences the clearest look yet at the visual world Bhansali is creating.

What Is the Love and War Movie Release Date?
Love & War is scheduled to release in theatres on January 21, 2027.
The makers announced the revised date after the film had previously been associated with earlier release windows.
The Indian Express — Love & War release date announcement
The January 21 date has since appeared again on the official first-look posters released in September 2026.
That repetition is important because it shows that the date remains part of the current promotional campaign rather than being an outdated announcement.
Earlier Release Plans Have Been Superseded
Older articles about the film may still show different release dates.
At various stages, reports connected Love & War with late 2025 and different 2026 release windows.
Those earlier plans are now outdated.
Bhansali Productions’ current public campaign uses January 21, 2027, so that is the date readers should follow unless the makers announce another change.

Ranbir Kapoor’s Love & War First Look
Ranbir Kapoor was the first of the three leads to receive a full character poster during the September campaign.
The image places him behind the wheel of a vintage car, with his arm visibly injured and bloodied.
That visual immediately suggested a more dangerous and emotionally bruised character than a conventional romantic lead.
The Indian Express — Ranbir Kapoor Love & War first look
The poster does not reveal his full character history, so it would be premature to convert visual clues into a complete plot description.
What it does establish is the vintage setting and a character already marked by physical conflict.
Ranbir Kapoor Reunites With Sanjay Leela Bhansali
The project is also significant because it reunites Ranbir Kapoor with Sanjay Leela Bhansali after Saawariya.
That gives the film an interesting creative connection to the beginning of Ranbir’s film career.
The gap between those collaborations also means both actor and filmmaker are returning to the partnership at very different stages of their careers.
Rather than presenting Love & War simply as a reunion, the current visual campaign suggests Bhansali is building a more mature, intense role around Kapoor.
Alia Bhatt’s First Look Has a Retro Cabaret Style
Alia Bhatt’s first-look poster arrived after Ranbir’s.
She appears in a dramatic red costume with feathers, lights and a stage setting that evokes classic cabaret imagery.
The Indian Express — Alia Bhatt Love & War first look
The imagery strongly suggests a performance setting within the film, although the makers have not yet released enough story information to define her entire character from this one poster.
The safest description is therefore that Alia’s first look uses a retro cabaret aesthetic.
Alia Bhatt Reunites With Bhansali
Love & War marks another collaboration between Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali after Gangubai Kathiawadi.
That earlier film placed Alia at the centre of a visually elaborate Bhansali world, but Love & War appears to be operating with a very different character dynamic.
Here, she is part of a central trio with Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
That creates the possibility of multiple emotional relationships rather than a story structured around one protagonist alone.
Vicky Kaushal’s First Look Completes the Trio
Vicky Kaushal’s poster followed on September 26.
His first look shows him with a vintage hairstyle and moustache, using an old-fashioned lighter to light a cigarette.
Scars visible on his face add another layer to the character’s appearance.
The Indian Express — Vicky Kaushal Love & War first look
The poster again carries the January 21, 2027 release date.
With all three first looks now public, the vintage period setting is much clearer than it was when the film was first announced.
Love and War Movie Cast
The three central stars officially associated with the film are:
Ranbir Kapoor
Alia Bhatt
Vicky Kaushal
Sanjay Leela Bhansali directs the project.
The film is especially notable because it brings all three actors together under Bhansali for the first time.
For Vicky Kaushal, it marks his first feature collaboration with Bhansali.
For Alia and Ranbir, it creates separate reunions with a filmmaker they have each worked with before.
What Is Love & War About?
The makers have not released a complete official plot synopsis detailing every character and story turn.
Current reporting consistently describes the project as an epic romantic drama set against the backdrop of war.
The central trio appears to be connected through love, rivalry and conflict.
That is enough to understand the broad premise, but not enough to responsibly invent exact character relationships, military ranks, deaths or plot twists.
Until an official trailer or synopsis arrives, those details should remain open.
Is Love & War a Love Triangle?
Current coverage describes the film as being built around a complicated emotional relationship involving Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.
Recent reporting has referred to it as a romantic war drama involving love, friendship, rivalry and sacrifice.
However, the full narrative structure has not yet been officially explained in detail.
That means “love triangle” can be used as broad context, but specific claims about who loves whom, betrayal sequences or the ending should not be stated as confirmed.
The First Looks Reveal a Vintage World
The three posters share a strong visual language.
Ranbir Kapoor
A vintage car, an injured arm and a composed but battle-worn appearance.
Alia Bhatt
A red cabaret-style costume, stage lights and a classic performance aesthetic.
Vicky Kaushal
A moustache, facial scars, cigarette and vintage lighter.
Together, those images suggest that period styling is central to the movie.
They also show that each lead is being presented with a distinct visual identity instead of appearing in identical promotional portraits.
Has Love & War Finished Shooting?
Recent reporting indicates that principal filming has been completed and the project has moved into its post-production stage.
That timing fits the September first-look campaign and the January 2027 theatrical date.
Post-production will be particularly important for a Bhansali film because editing, music, sound design, grading and visual finishing are all major parts of the final presentation.
The current status therefore appears to be much further along than older articles that still describe the project as only being in active production.
Why the January 2027 Date Matters
January 21 places the film immediately before India’s Republic Day period.
That gives Love & War a prominent theatrical window without requiring speculative claims about its future box-office performance.
A major holiday-adjacent date can increase audience availability, but it does not guarantee a particular opening figure or lifetime collection.
For that reason, this page should not repeat unsupported ₹500 crore or ₹1,000 crore predictions before the film opens.
Will Love & War Release in Multiple Languages?
Yes.
The makers’ release announcement states that the film is planned for theatrical release in:
Hindi
Tamil
Telugu
The Indian Express — Love & War January 2027 release update
That positions the film for a wider Indian theatrical rollout rather than a Hindi-only release.
Is There an Official Love & War Trailer?
The individual first looks are now out, but viewers should be careful with videos labelled as an “official trailer” on unofficial channels.
Several fan-made and concept trailers have circulated online.
Unless the trailer comes from Bhansali Productions, the official music/distribution partner or another authorised channel, it should not be presented as the film’s real trailer.
The September posters are verified promotional material from the makers.
Is the OTT Platform Confirmed?
This article should not present an OTT service or streaming date as confirmed unless the platform or production company makes a direct announcement.
The current official campaign is focused on the January 21, 2027 theatrical release.
Any claim that the film will definitely arrive on a particular streaming platform six or eight weeks later should be treated cautiously unless officially announced.
Why This Article Needed Updating
An older version of this page carried an August 2026 release date and speculative box-office, review and streaming language.
That information is no longer appropriate.
The current verified picture is much clearer:
release date: January 21, 2027
director: Sanjay Leela Bhansali
leads: Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal
first looks: officially released
Hindi, Tamil and Telugu theatrical rollout announced
detailed plot: still under wraps
final OTT date/platform: not established here
box-office result: impossible to know before release
This makes the page useful as an updated preview rather than a prediction article pretending the unreleased movie has already been reviewed.
